The Apple Filling

  • 3 large apples, sliced (around 1/41/2 inch)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • A dash of salt

The Crisp Topping

  • 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
  • 1/2 cup old fashioned whole rolled oats

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350° and lightly grease an 8″x8″ glass or ceramic baking pan.
  2. In a large bowls, toss the apple slices with brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt. Pour into the baking pan and spread into and even layer.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add in the diced butter and cut in with a pastry cutter until it comes together in a crumb-like mixture. Add the oats and mix.
  4. Pour the oat mixtures evenly on top of the apples.
  5. Baking for around 35 minutes. The topping will be golden brown and the filling will be bubbly on the sides. Let sit for about 5 minutes before serving.
