The Apple Filling
- 3 large apples, sliced (around 1/4 – 1/2 inch)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- A dash of salt
The Crisp Topping
- 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 6 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
- 1/2 cup old fashioned whole rolled oats
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350° and lightly grease an 8″x8″ glass or ceramic baking pan.
- In a large bowls, toss the apple slices with brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt. Pour into the baking pan and spread into and even layer.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add in the diced butter and cut in with a pastry cutter until it comes together in a crumb-like mixture. Add the oats and mix.
- Pour the oat mixtures evenly on top of the apples.
- Baking for around 35 minutes. The topping will be golden brown and the filling will be bubbly on the sides. Let sit for about 5 minutes before serving.
